Description

Drawing from Gallup’s extensive research on the experiences of Black Americans in the workforce, this session will explore the often overlooked yet critical aspect of workplace culture: the unwritten rules that influence employees’ confidence in reaching their career goals. From informal norms to unspoken expectations, participants will gain valuable insights into the factors that contribute to employees’ perceptions of their ability to succeed and thrive in their careers. Additionally, we will explore the alignment between these unwritten rules and formal performance standards, shedding light on the disparities that may exist between perception and reality in the workplace.

Objectives:

  • Explore employees’ perceptions of the importance of specific types of informal or unspoken rules for advancement and promotion at their organization.
  • Examine differences in employees’ confidence levels in navigating their career paths successfully.
  • Discuss strategies for promoting transparency, equity and inclusivity in workplace cultures to empower all employees to pursue and achieve their career goals.
