Breakout Sessions
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville set a bold new vision to create a campus rooted in wellbeing where every student thrives. Through initiatives that include a comprehensive, strengths-based experience for first-year students; Vol Success Teams, a team-based approach to student success; and the Volunteer Experience, a campus-wide effort to promote wellbeing, UT is moving the needle on student success and invites participants to learn about its innovative approach.
Objectives:
Coaching is a broadly defined activity people refer to in the world of people development. However, the craft of coaching goes beyond a “nice” conversation. It is a practical activity that results in observable outcomes, performance and growth. Coaching is a multibillion-dollar industry, actively sought in highly competitive fields such as entertainment, sports and business. Join us to learn the essentials of coaching that you can apply in your role, business and life.
Objectives:
A manager passes out their team’s engagement results and asks, “So what do you all think?” And then? Crickets. Too often, this is the reality. How can this be avoided?
Gallup calls these state of the team conversations, while others call them action planning or impact planning conversations. But no matter what they’re called, there are specific tactics that managers can execute to make these conversations fruitful. When teams have a productive conversation exploring the sources of engagement and disengagement beneath their survey results, devise a plan to address those, and then, most importantly, actually execute those plans, those teams are taking ownership of their own engagement. Subsequently, their engagement will increase! In this session, participants will learn best practices on how to facilitate such an effective conversation.
Objectives:
Today’s employees demand flexibility, ongoing development and a manager who’s less like a boss and more like a coach. Many employees are leaving teams and organizations that don’t meet these needs — and flocking to those that do. Join this highly interactive session to learn about and practice ongoing coaching conversations to engage, develop and retain top talent in the increasingly hybrid workplace.
Objectives:
Coaches provide an excellent depth of understanding and can make meaningful impact individually and with teams. But to create a sustainable community of strengths-based development takes more. Strengths champions expand the positive impact a coach can make by promoting, guiding and encouraging others to invest in their strengths. In this session, explore the role of strengths champion and plan for ways you can evaluate your organization, school or community for potential multipliers — champions.
In this session, participants will explore how to create and implement a “strengths champions strategy” by creating a purpose, selecting the right people, setting them up for success and making it stick.
Objectives:
At the start of 2021, many of us expected the world to return to normalcy. Companies were creating return to the workplace plans as vaccines rolled out, but instead, the year was more volatile than expected. New COVID-19 variants, a massive war for talent, the Great Resignation and the highest inflation levels in a generation created surprising instability. On top of this, companies continue to navigate DEI journeys, technological transformations, the need to prioritize employee wellbeing and so much more.
Join this session for a discussion between three prominent CHROs on how companies are rethinking the future of the workplace and how they are tackling their most pressing problems.

Breakout Sessions
Are you new to CliftonStrengths and curious about how to bring the tool into your conversations as a coach? In this session, you’ll get the inside scoop of tried and tested ways to create an engaging feedback conversation using strengths. We will not only talk about effective ways to create a lasting understanding of the CliftonStrengths philosophy, but there will also be a live feedback demo so you can see the teachings in action.
Objectives:
Understanding what employees are thinking and feeling during these days of constant disruption can be difficult. Organizations have found that pulse surveys are an excellent way to gain insights and perspectives on how associates think about workplace culture, organizational strategies and new initiatives. But do organizations have a thorough strategy and action plan for what to do with the results? Are you choosing the right questions and developing your managers on how to use the insights?
In this session, we’ll explore the different ways organizations have used pulse surveys, the different methodologies to conduct a pulse survey, how the information has enhanced organizations and examples of organizational pulse strategies.
Objectives:
A confluence of stressors is producing trauma and burnout throughout American school systems. Remote learning, declines in student performance, politically charged environments, culture wars and COVID-19 fatigue — it’s not uncommon to find parents, labor groups, politicians and staff on opposing sides of these issues.
The situation can feel grim for leaders, but there is reason for hope. Organizational trauma can be healed, and it starts with healing people.
Join this session for lessons on healing organizational trauma, including culture and climate strategies that can keep an organization focused on its mission and the health and growth of its people.
Objectives:
Managing or coaching sales professionals is complicated. The best sales professionals do not share the same talents, experiences or habits. While Gallup research shows that there is no “one right way to sell,” we discovered that successful professionals do have one thing in common: They share a relentless commitment to understanding and serving the emotion, style and talent of their clients. They tune their ear toward the emotion of their clients, serving as trusted advisers.
This session will explore practical insights and applications stemming from Gallup’s research focused on helping salespeople sharpen and aim their strengths. Gallup shows that strengths, when leveraged properly, can enhance the sales process and ultimately drive stronger sales and stronger engagement for salespeople.
Objectives:
Organizations use exit interviews to try to discern the reasons employees leave, but many could be using a new technique to understand why employees are staying and how to retain them: stay interviews. In this session, we will explore how leaders and managers can conduct powerful stay interviews — and then translate the results into individual, team and organizational strategies that maximize retention and support advancement, inclusion and belonging.
Objectives:
Pandemic-related labor market shortages and the emergence of boundary-less recruiting have upended talent acquisition. Competition for talent is fierce — staffing shortages are plaguing many industries and candidates are evaluating job opportunities using a new set of benchmarks. Old structures and systems must give way to new thinking and future-focused strategy. Join this session to incorporate insights from Gallup’s latest job-seekers research and rethink key aspects of your talent strategy to accelerate hiring and retention for the future of work.

Breakout Sessions
If employees lost trust in your organization, would you know it? Trust is essential to great cultures, especially in a climate of high turnover and incessant change. Employees who trust their leadership are twice as likely to say they will be with their company one year from now. High-trust organizations adapt quickly to change and new initiatives. And even when there are periodic mistakes in decisions or communication, when trust is present, employees tend to give leaders the benefit of the doubt. But a growing number of companies are experiencing an erosion of employees’ trust in leadership. Join this session to understand and influence organizational trust.
Objectives:
The world of education has changed. Given all the challenges, how do we create an engaged and thriving college experience? Progressive institutions are examining and promoting student engagement and wellbeing, recognizing them as a way to meet new education demands and fuel the achievement of their school’s central promise — to set graduates on a course for meaningful, fulfilled and engaged lives. Join this session to explore how CliftonStrengths can drive student wellbeing and engagement across campus to enhance the student experience.
Objectives:
With increasing and spiking levels of stress, anger and worry, people need strategies to manage their energy more proactively than ever before. In this session, learn key findings from Gallup’s latest global wellbeing research. Spoiler alert: If you feel like life is challenging, you are not alone. Join Theme Thursday’s Maika Leibbrandt to explore a new framework for considering the expansion of your strengths as it relates to energy management. Participate in a reflection activity at the intersection of your strengths and your wellbeing. Leave with one specific action tailored to your unique talent that helps you know, honor and ask for what you need in order to thrive.
Objectives:
Some coaching clients are seeking more than a conversation. They want a curriculum designed to accelerate their development on a particular topic or career transition. Whether it be moving from manager to leader, increasing the engagement of their team, or adjusting through an organizational change, clients appreciate a framework and series of sessions that equip them with the knowledge and insights to navigate successfully. Starting with a focus on strengths and then building on each session with relevant topics, clients experience a greater sense of confidence and progress through a structured coaching package.
Objectives:
Managers hold the keys to organizational outcomes — especially in times of disruption and uncertainty. But they are at risk for burnout and departure just like the employees they lead. In order to stay engaged and effective, managers urgently require ongoing development. Attend this session to learn the essentials of connecting, collaborating and learning together in ways perfectly suited to this critical and uniquely challenging role.
Objectives:
As remote working continues to blur the lines between home and work, a growing number of employees report feeling burned out. Wellbeing affects the number of sick days people take, their job performance and their likelihood to leave your organization, as does engagement — meaning your company’s strategy to support each employee’s whole-person experience is critical to success. A key question to consider is, what fuels your engagement and wellbeing? Much of it has to do with what’s happening cognitively for each of us and the people around us. Join this session to explore how to create a culture of engagement and wellbeing for a thriving future.
Objectives:
For this session, we ask participants to have the following resources to participate in an activity:
For the activity, you will need your paper clip tied to your cotton or string.

Breakout Sessions
A strengths-based culture is primarily understanding the interpersonal behaviors, rituals and norms that fuel the performance of your organization. Gallup’s research shows that just 23% of U.S. employees strongly agree they can apply their organization’s values to their work every day. We also know that organizations that drive a strong culture gain benefits, such as an increase in employee engagement and improved customer patronage, that lead to significant growth in workforce and net profits. Join this session for both a conceptual and practical foundation of what a strengths-based culture is and what sets it apart. Change the way you work to better attract and retain talent that can elevate your organization to new heights.
Objectives:
As educational institutions work to prioritize the responsibilities and initiatives ahead of them, employee development can be overlooked. Finding ways to weave strengths into the fabric of your organization through coaching sets employees up for success and contributes to greater productivity and engagement. Join this session to learn how to create a more developmental mindset where managers can apply their knowledge of strengths to help team members grow while working towards a thriving, performance-based culture.
Objectives:
Despite workplace culture moving up the priority list for CEOs globally, the experience at work for most employees is unsettling and energy-sapping. A mere two in every 10 employees in the global workforce today are engaged at work. This can be very costly to organizations — the lost productivity of employees who aren’t engaged is 18% of their annual salary. It is also the key factor in what is popularly referred to as the Great Resignation. The good news: There are organizations out there that buck the trend — they have improved engagement levels to amongst the top quartile of Gallup’s database and sustained this even during the pandemic. Join this session to discover how these organizations have managed this feat and transformed their cultures.
Objectives:
When executives seek out a coach, they don’t just want someone to serve as a sounding board, ask powerful questions, and create impactful insights. They also want a trusted adviser who can share best practices and provide helpful frameworks and research to guide their decision-making. Great coaches can provide leaders alternative solutions that are better aligned with their strengths and authentic style. Coaches should join this session to learn how to incorporate consulting and CliftonStrengths into their executive coaching and explore the value of giving advice.
Objectives:
Managers play a critical role in actualizing an organization’s employee value proposition (EVP). A compelling EVP attracts talent, but employees who experience a “bait and switch” once they join the organization will exit quickly. Managers shape the employee experience through their words and actions — are you continually re-attracting employees through your lived EVP? Join this session to learn how the best managers leverage a compelling EVP to attract, engage and retain top talent.
Objectives:
Recognition is a crucial component of employee engagement and is one of the basic needs of an employee within any organization. Gallup has partnered with Workhuman to study the connection between recognition and key business outcomes and define the concept of recognition in the workplace and its potential impacts on employees and companies. Workhuman will share its latest findings on recognition from its recently published report, and Gallup will discuss the benefits of building a culture of recognition where all employees feel valued and appreciated.

Workshop Sessions
The daily life of a busy manager has never been more complex. Effective, continuous, year-long action planning can be the key to staying on top of the demands in your work life. Join this interactive workshop to gain insights from like-minded managers on effective action planning that will drive efficiency and purpose in your work and get an overview of all that Gallup Access can do for your managerial practice.
Objectives:
Questions are the backbone of coaching, and while some say there is never a bad question, the most powerful questions unlock insights and move people forward to their aspirational future. Most coaches are familiar with the three levels of listening: listen to respond, listen to understand and listen to emotions. Although it takes many disciplined hours of practice to listen at level three, there is a higher level: listening for the future to emerge. Join this session to learn how to use your strengths to craft powerful questions and listen at the fourth level.
Objectives:
Can I give you some feedback? If your stomach just tightened at the invitation, you’re not alone. While critical to the retention of top talent and growth of your organization, feedback gets a bad rap. If you’re struggling to give or receive feedback, good news: You can learn how to improve. In this workshop, join two successful professionals who know a thing or two about offering and receiving feedback — a real-life manager and team member who have mastered feedback not just as learning practitioners but as actual workplace colleagues. Laugh with them, learn from them and listen in as they practice coupling CliftonStrengths and feedback in real time.
Objectives:
The employee engagement results have come out for your organization, with leaders and managers receiving their team reports. Now what? Coaches play a powerful role in helping make sense of results and can translate insight into action. When done well, these coaching conversations can have a profound effect on a leader’s or manager's style of management, their team effectiveness, and ultimately the performance results they achieve. Come ready to practice upskilling your coaching capabilities in this workshop meant to equip and inspire!
Objectives:
Most companies have a purpose statement, but few have the level of purpose required to attract star talent. Most companies have values on their walls, but few live those values in a way that delivers on their brand promises to customers. The more your purpose, values and brand connect to your unique organizational identity — essentially your organizational strengths — the more they will jump off the website and into the hearts and minds of your people.
This workshop is designed to help organizations — and the people in them — be the best versions of themselves possible, or at least start that journey. We will help you to wrap your purpose, values and brand around your company’s strengths and live that purpose out every day as a manager, coach or individual contributor.
